Liver Cancer Treatment

No liver cancer patient is the same, and each case requires personalized treatment.  If you’re referred to us for the investigation of liver cancer, let us offer you advanced diagnostics with early detection and effective treatment options for minimizing and preventing the disease.

Liver Cancer develops when healthy cells change and grow out of control, forming a mass called a tumor in the liver. Cancer that begins in the liver is called primary liver cancer, whereas cancer that grows in other parts of the body but extends into the liver is called metastatic liver cancer. There are several factors that may trigger abnormal functioning or irregular growth of cells in the liver to develop cancer. Some of the known liver cancer causes are:

  • Prolonged hepatitis B and hepatitis C
  • Excessive consumption of alcohol
  • Obesity and diabetes together cause a liver abnormality called non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)
  • A family history of certain metabolic diseases
  • Exposure to aflatoxins and consumption of contaminated food
  • Many other liver diseases like Glycogen storage disease.

These may include blood tests, imaging tests such as ultrasound, CT MRI, bone scan, and biopsy for the collection of a sample of liver tissue for testing,

Liver Cancer Treatment Options:

Our multidisciplinary team of liver cancer experts recommends treatment options after carefully assessing the patient’s unique diagnosis and needs as well as other factors such as the amount of damage caused to the liver by cancer. Liver cancer treatment options may include:

  • Interventional radiology, in which minimally invasive procedure is used to destroy tumors in the liver and prevent the disease from spreading to the surrounding tissues.
  • Chemotherapy, to minimize tumor size and destroy cancer cells.
  • Radiation therapy, in which cancer cells are destroyed through high rays.
