Dr. Abeer Khayat did her basic medical training from Damascus University, Syria in 1990. She is US Board Certified in Pediatrics (1998) and recertified in 2015. She also acquired her Safety, Quality, Informatics and Leadership certificate in 2017 from Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA.
A member of the American Board in Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine as well as a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Abed Aydin is a full-time Pediatrics Specialist and General Pediatrician at the American Hospital Dubai.
Having started out his medical career in his native Syria, Dr. Aydin then relocated to the USA where he continued his residency in Specialty of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine in Detroit’s Children’s Hospital of Michigan. For over 15 years, Dr. Aydin operated from a private solo practice in Pennsylvania where he provided medical excellence and services such as Neonatal Critical Care, nurse teaching and prenatal lectures.
Throughout his illustrious career that spans over the past 40 years, Dr. Aydin has earned a multitude of certificates and accolades that have only served to enhance his credibility and further his professional path. Dr. Aydin also assumes the position of Acting Chief of Pediatrics at the American Hospital Dubai and holds an active medical license in Michigan and Pennsylvania.
In conjunction with his medical services, Dr. Aydin frequently partakes in pediatric seminars and lectures.
Dr. Omer Ahmed has joined us after 15 years experience as a Consultant Pediatrician in UK. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health UK. His Pediatrics Training was in Sabah Hospital-Kuwait, Alder Hay Hospital-Liverpool, Great Ormond Street and the Royal Free Hospital in London before taking a Consultant Post in Hertfordshire UK. Earlier in his career, Dr Ahmed worked in Sudan, Libya and Kuwait. His experience covers wide areas in child health: Respiratory/Asthma, Neonatology, Hematology/Oncology and Child Development.
Dr. Ahmed continues pursuing an interest in Medical Education and Training.
Dr. Samina Jamil a Fellow of American Academy of Pediatrics, is a Board certified Pediatrician and Neonatologist, trained in USA and practiced over there for more than 20 years before coming to American Hospital of Dubai.
She also has been involved in teaching Medical students, Residents, Nurses and Fellow Physicians. She has been a faculty member of Wayne State University School of Medicine in Michigan, UTMB and Baylor College of Medicine in Texas.
She has done many presentations about diseases of Neonatology and Pediatrics both Nationally and Internationally and has received award on presentation of “Surfactant” by Howard University in Washington DC; A drug which was discovered to be used to develop premature lungs and has been used very successfully in care of Premature as well as sick Term babies with respiratory problems. She has been involved in clinical trials in research of Infasurf and has great success in caring for her sick newborns with respiratory problems
Her main interest is caring for sick newborns, but she feels pride in taking care of children of all ages. In summary her passion is Pediatrics including Neonatology; she enjoys working with parents and strives doing best for their children.
She was recognized and Published in “Who is Who” by Cambridge and then in American Academy of Pediatrics Newsletter for excellent patient care.
Dr. Samina also has experience and success in developing NICUs (for caring of sick newborns)in different hospitals in Texas, USA. These hospitals feel pride of their NICU units as one of their best units in the whole hospital.
Dr Rim Albalkhi, a Swiss national, is accredited by the FMH (Swiss Medical Association) as a specialist in pediatrics. She completed her medical degree and Masters degree in pediatrics at the University of Damascus, Syria, before completing a Doctorate in medicine at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. She also holds a Federal Diploma in medicine, Switzerland.
Dr Albalkhi undertook her residency in the pediatrics department at Damascus University Hospital, followed by a residency in the department of pediatrics at the University Hospital of Geneva, Switzerland. She then practised as a Pediatrician at the Department of Pediatrics, Martigny Hospital, Martigny, Switzerland, and then the Hospital of Sion (RSV), Sion, Switzerland. Dr Albalkhi has also been active in research and published papers on a variety of pediatric related issues. She speaks Arabic, English and French.
Dr. Akbar did her basic medical training from Sind Medical College, Pakistan in 1991. She is US Board Certified in Pediatrics (1996) and her most recent recertification was in 2016. Prior to joining us, Dr. Akbar worked at Murphy Pediatrics, Texas, USA from August 2009 to February 2016. From December 2005 to June 2009, she worked at Beckley Pediatric Associates, West Virginia, USA. Dr. Akbar has done locum tenens at our DMC Clinic from March 2017 to April 2017.
Dr. Krishnakumar Thattakkat, with over 20 years of medical expertise and specialized experience, is a Consultant Pediatrician at American Hospital Dubai.
Upon completing his MBBS, followed by specialization in Pediatrics and his certification as a Diplomate of the National Board in Pediatrics in India, Dr. Thattakkat went on to earn the “best outgoing student of the year” acclaim and a gold medal from the Gujarat University and B.J. Medical College in Ahmedabad in 1996.
He moved to the UK shortly after, training with the National Health Service and successfully completing his MRCPCH in 2004. This was followed by more advanced Pediatric training as a Specialist Registrar at the prestigious Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool, UK; one of the largest Children’s hospitals in Europe.
His professional journey led him to other reputed institutions such as the Birmingham Children’s Hospital and the Liverpool Women’s Hospital. He was awarded the CCT-UK and FRCPCH in 2010 and 2011 respectively, and has worked as a Consultant Pediatrician in the UK for the better part of the past decade in substantive posts.
Dr. Thattakkat is also an accredited clinical examiner of the MRCPCH, UK; a regular conference and presentation participant, and continues to publish his work in peer-reviewed publications. He has also secured a Post graduate Diploma in Clinical Education from the University of Plymouth, UK and he was awarded the title of Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy for his significant contributions to clinical pediatric training and teaching.
Dr. Sathiya Jayapal is a Consultant Pediatrician at American Hospital Dubai with extensive expertise in his field. Dr. Jayapal specializes in Pediatric Neurology and Epilepsy, treating newborns and children up to the age of 16 years old.
Over the course of the years, Dr. Jayapal has earned a number of medical certificates and qualifications, such as an MD in Pediatrics from the Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children in Chennai, a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) from Oxford Deanery, and a Fellowship in Pediatric Neurology from London’s Guy’s and St. Thomas NHS Foundation Trust.
His illustrious career has led him across some of the world’s most notable medical institutions, including the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford where he worked as a Senior House Officer and later a Specialty Trainee in a number of different units, as well as the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading where he was, most recently, a Consultant Pediatrician. In addition, Dr. Jayapal has earned an FRCPCH (Fellow of the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health) degree from London, in appreciation of his service and contribution to the field of pediatrics.
Along with his medical experience, Dr. Jayapal has amassed extensive administration and management skills through rigorous trainings and multiple certifications. Today, he continues to publish works on topics such as “Recognizing Serious Umbilical Cord Anomalies” and “Topiramate for Chronic Migraine in Children”, and regularly participates in presentations, roundtables and conferences in his medical specialty.
Prof. Dr. Frank-Martin Haecker is a German and Swiss-board-certified Pediatric Surgeon who specializes in pediatric urology and the conservative and surgical treatment of chest wall deformities.
Prof. Dr. Haecker attended medical school at the University of Bochum and the University of Tuebingen, Germany, where he received his medical degree in 1990. He served as a junior staff member at the Department of Pediatric Surgery at the University Hospital of Tuebingen and at the Department of General Surgery at the Hospital of Baden-Baden.
Prior to joining American Hospital Dubai, Prof. Dr. Haecker worked as a Consultant at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Switzerland in St. Gallen and the Schmerzklinik in Basel. He also served as an Attending Surgeon at the Department of Pediatric Surgery in Basel’s University Children’s Hospital. In 2005, he started a specialized outpatient clinic for pediatric urology and later a specialized outpatient clinic for chest wall deformities. From 2014 to 2016, he was Senior Consultant at the Department of Pediatric Surgery at the University Hospital of Freiburg, Germany.
In parallel with his work in pediatric surgery, Prof Dr. Haecker is a member of several national and international professional societies and a founding member of the CWIG (Chest Wall International Group), which he currently presides over.
Dr. Tan is a UK board certified Consultant Paediatrician with an extensive experience of more than 25 years in General Pediatrics and Level 3 Neonatology. He has joined American Hospital Dubai having worked as a Consultant Pediatrician in the UK and Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Dr. Tan received his basic Medical degree from Heinrich-Heine University in Dusseldorf, Germany (1987). After his study he worked in Dusseldorf as a Radiologist.
He then undertook his pediatric training in the UK where he worked in well known hospitals, such as Great Ormond Street Hospital, London, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool and also in Australia at the Royal Women’s Hospital, Melbourne.. He obtained his CCST in General Pediatrics in 2004.
After his training he worked as a Consultant Paediatrician at Booth Hall Children’s Hospital and North Manchester General Hospital for nearly 11 years. He was the Named Doctor for Safeguarding for 2 years and the Paediatric Research Lead of the hospital. In 2014 he moved to Abu Dhabi where he worked in King’s College Hospital London and Danat Al Emarat Hospital Women and Children’s for nearly 4 years before returning to the NHS for 2 years.
Dr. Tan is competent and confident in all aspects of General Pediatrics and Child Development and he has a particular interest in Pediatric Allergy, Asthma and Eczema and Pediatric Infectious Diseases/Vaccination.
Dr. Tan has a passion for education and has authored many articles in peer- reviewed Journals and has been actively involved in research in the UK.
Dr. Sridhar Ramaiah is a UK board certified Neonatology Consultant with extensive experience of more than 10 years. He has been working as a neonatal consultant in a large busy tertiary neonatal referral centre in the UK, for the past 6 years. Dr Ramaiah was awarded MRCPCH, London, UK in the year 2007. He went on to complete Neonatal Higher Specialist Training (Neonatal Grid Training) from East of England region, during which he was trained in Neonatal Medicine at The Rosie Maternity Hospital, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He was awarded CCT in Neonatal Medicine in the year 2014. He was later awarded Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (FRCPCH) in the year 2015.He has also worked as neonatal trainee at the ‘Simpsons Maternity Hospital’ Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and as Neonatal Consultant at Royal Victoria infirmary” Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Dr. Ramaiah received his basic medical degree from Bangalore University in India (1999). He completed his MD (2003) from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi. Awarded the best outgoing MD candidate of the year 2003 at the annual convocation. Dr. Ramaiah is a tertiary neonatal consultant, who is experienced in managing all aspects of Neonatal Medicine. This includes counselling of parents in the antenatal clinic and fetal medicine clinic, managing complex and common neonatal problems, including babies needing therapeutic hypothermia, babies born at extreme prematurity, babies needing post-operative management and babies born with congenital malformations.
