Dr. Balu Bhaskar has a Fellowship from the College of Intensive Care Medicine, Australia (2010) and Fellowship from the Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine, Australia and New Zealand (2009). He also has a Fellowship from the College of Chest Physicians (FCCP), USA (2009). Dr. Bhaskar completed his Master of Medicine in Anesthesiology from India (1999) and did his basic medical training from Calicut University, India in 1996.
Prior to joining us, Dr. Bhaskar worked as Intensive Care Staff Specialist at The Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane, Australia since 2010. He was also the Supervisor of Training of the Intensive Care Unit at the same hospital since June 2012. Dr. Bhaskar has also been the Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland since October 2012 and at Griffith University since January 2010.
Dr. Emad Kowatli, MD. FCCP. FAASM is an intensive care and pulmonology expert who specializes in pulmonary and sleep medicine. He has received certification and licensure from the American Board of Sleep Disorder, Critical Care Medicine, Pulmonology and Internal Medicine.
In 1983, he gained his medical degree from Damascus University, Syria.
Post graduation, he worked in America where he completed his internal medicine residency at Wright State University, his Critical Care Fellowship at the Chicago Medical School and was awarded his Pulmonary and Sleep Fellowship at University of South Florida. Whilst in America he gained huge experience in chronic ventilation.
Before joining the American Hospital Dubai, Dr. Kowatli held numerous respected positions for almost 12 years in U.S. hospitals. Namely, Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at West Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Director of Medical Ethics Committee and Director of intensive Care Unit at the Logan Regional Medical Center, West Virginia, and recognized as a good teacher to medical residents and students alike. Additionally, he held the position of the Regent of the American College of Chest Physicians, UAE. He also served as a speaker and consultant to the majority of American pharmaceutical companies.
Dr. Kowatli is a pioneer concerning sleep disorder medicine and was the first board certified sleep specialist in the UAE. He is also responsible for creating the first sleep laboratory in the UAE and in the majority of hospitals he has worked in. Additionally, he performs pioneering procedures such as EBUS and ultrasound guided probe bronchoscopy to diagnose lung nodules as well as using cryobiopsy to avoid surgery and diagnose lung fibrosis. We are the only center in the UAE offering these procedures.
Based on his wealth of experience, Dr. Kowatli has conducted vast numbers of clinical lectures in the UAE regarding pulmonology, critical care and sleep medicine.
Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Critical Care, Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine, Dr. Naim Aoun is a consultant in Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at the American Hospital Dubai.
Upon receiving his medical degree from the St. Joseph University Medical School in Beirut, Lebanon, Dr. Aoun went on to serve his residency at University of Massachusetts’s St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts, ultimately earning a triple fellowship in Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine from Tufts University’s St. Elizabeth hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.
With a special interest in obstructive lung diseases (COPD and asthma), interstitial lung diseases, pulmonary malignancies and all aspects of sleep medicine including sleep apnea, Dr. Aoun established himself as a leading doctor while working as an inpatient and outpatient attending physician at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, New Hampshire where he also served as the Chair of Department of Medicine and of the intensive care unit.
In parallel with his clinical work, Dr. Aoun regularly partakes in national speaking events, seminars, lectures and roundtables on topics such as asthma, emphysema and interstitial lung diseases. He performs as a senior consultant and speaker to several major pharmaceutical companies. Dr. Aoun is also a member of several medical associations, has served over the years as an investigator on medical research papers and a writer in several peer reviewed publications and contributor to pulmonary chapters in medical textbooks.
With certifications from the American Board in Critical Care, Pulmonary Diseases and Internal Medicine, Dr. Mazen Zouwayhed is a Pulmonary Critical Care Specialist and one of American Hospital Dubai’s most prolific physicians.
Dr. Zouwayhed’s educational journey into the medical landscape started in the early 90s when he joined the University of Damascus’ School of Medicine and graduated 6 years later with a certificate of honor from the university. He moved to the United States of America post graduation, first to undertake his Internal Medicine Residency in Cleveland, Ohio and later to excel in his Pulmonary / Critical Care Fellowship in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
During his time in the USA, Dr. Zouwayhed’s also served as a Hospitalist and a Medical Director of the Hospitalist Program at the Trover Foundation Regional Medical Center in Madisonville, Kentucky. Following his exit, he moved to Oklahoma where he finished a fellowship in Pulmonary Critical care before working as a Pulmonary Critical care specialist at Mercy Hospital and Edmond Hospital in Oklahoma City Oklahoma.
In parallel with his work as a physician, Dr. Zouwayhed frequently collaborates on medical journals and research papers, and has also participated in creating an education website for his residency program during his year as Chief Resident. His areas of specialty are Interventional Pulmonary, Chronic Pulmonary Diseases, Pulmonary Hypertension, Asthma and Pulmonary Fibrosis.
