Oncology Staff Nurse – Western/Middle Eastern Educated and Trained
The role of the Oncology Staff Nurse, encompasses performing a variety of specialized and routine activities in the Oncology Department including but not limited to providing direct patient care and coordinates patient care-related activities using the nursing process, administering chemotherapy and biotherapy and blood products, managing patients before, during and after procedures, administering medications, maintaining patient’s records, counseling and educating patients and their families and performing emergency treatment as needed. Nursing care given to pediatric, adolescent, and adult patient population.
Requirements:

  1. Applicant must hold current National License.
  2. 3-4 year General Nursing Diploma/Degree.
  3. Minimum 4 years nursing care, with at least two years in specialization /experience in Oncology/Hematology.
  4. BLS certification.
  5. Chemotherapy Administration Certification preferable.
  6. DHA License desirable.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Provide advanced professional and specialized nursing consultation to patients, nurses and other health team members.

PAIN ADVISOR

A Registered Nurse who provides comprehensive nursing care to clients experiencing acute and chronic pain from a variety of causes such as cancer, labour and delivery, post operative, headaches, chronic back pain etc. This Nurse uses pain management knowledge and skills to make clinical decisions, develop client diagnosis, establish a plan of care, and evaluate the effectiveness of care for patients of all ages including special populations. Supports staff in the care of patients with pain and collaborates with multidisciplinary care givers in revising treatment regimens. Assesses the educational needs of staff related to pain management, assists with Pain assessments and assists in providing educational programs for staff in coordination with the Unit Nurse Manager/Designee. Reviews patients on intravenous (PCA) and epidural pain management in a timely manner and evaluates effectiveness of therapy. Reports findings to Team Leader and/or Nurse Manager as necessary, documents findings and plan of care in the EMR. Monitors patient satisfaction in relation to pain control and its management. Manages inventory of pain management related equipment (PCAs, Epidural Pumps and other related). Liaises with and updates the Physicians and multidisciplinary team for any significant changes in the plan of management of pain. Takes part in the nursing orientation to present the pain management services. Conducts daily unit rounds for a proactive planning of care of the patients in need. Provides input in the selection of Quality Measures related to pain management and collects and analyses data accordingly. Shares Quality measures results and action plans with the unit Managers and the Clinical Education Manager and follows up on the execution. Reviews and monitors incidents relating to pain management and takes appropriate actions in discussion with the relevant Unit Managers.

Educational Requirements:

  1. Bachelor Degree in Nursing (duration not less than three years) or
  2. Diploma in Nursing (not less than three academic years in nursing only) or
  3. Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery (not less than three academic years)

Desirable Criteria:

  1. Post Graduate qualification in Advanced Clinical Speciality (Pain Management)

Professional Experience/ Knowledge:

  1. Current license to practice nursing in country of origin and with the DHA
  2. BLS/ACLS Certifications
  3. Minimum five (5) years nursing experience in an acute Hospital setting
  4. Two (2) years experience as Pain Management Nurse/ Pain Advisor
  5. Recent experience in a JCI accredited hospital setting – desirable
  6. Computer literacy consistent with the role

Patient Care Coordinator – Oncology Services

Responsible for coordinating admission and discharge planning services for patients at the American Hospital Dubai working with a multidisciplinary team

Educational Requirements:

  1. Bachelor Degree in Nursing (duration not less than three years) or
  2. Diploma in Nursing (not less than three academic years in nursing only) or
  3. Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery (not less than three academic years)
  4. Communication skills in Arabic & English are essential
  5. Current nursing license from DHA/MOH/HAAD an advantage

Professional Experience:

  1. 4-5 years’ experience in an Acute Care Hospital
  2. Oncology experience desirable
  3. BLS Certification
  4. Worked in an accredited facility. (JCIA preferably)

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Discusses the medical admission process with all patients referred to her/him which includes but is not limited to the length of stay, expected patient outcomes (eg. Physiotherapy expectations, nutritional guidelines, etc.)
  2. Ensures all admission documentation from the clinics has been completed
  3. Provides the patient and relatives a tour of the admitting unit
  4. Collaborates with patients, families, and health care professionals to achieve optimal patient outcomes
  5. Conduct comprehensive client assessments to collect functional, environmental, psycho-social, financial, employment, housing, educational, and health information as appropriate to assist the in-patient nursing staff with developing and creating a high standard nursing care plan
  6. Develop support systems to meet client needs by identifying and coordinating a variety of available services
  7. Creates and supports an environment which fosters teamwork, cooperation, and respect for cultural diversity amongst the members of staff
  8. Assess patients and families for post discharge needs; inform patients and families on discharge planning options based on diagnoses, prognoses, resources and preferences related to home care services
