Mayo Clinic Care Network

Mayo Clinic

Mayo Clinic is a nonprofit organization that is committed to providing comprehensive care to everyone who needs healing. At Mayo Clinic, doctors from every medical specialty work together to advance medical knowledge through research and education and apply that knowledge to medical care.

Mayo Clinic is the first and largest integrated, not-for-profit group practice in the world. At Mayo, a team of specialists is assembled to take the time to listen, understand and care for patients’ health issues and concerns. These teams draw from more than 4,000 physicians and scientists and nearly 60,000 allied health staff.

Mayo Clinic has three major campuses in Rochester, Minn.; Scottsdale and Phoenix, Ariz.; and Jacksonville, Fla., as well as a wholly owned community health system.

Mayo Clinic Care Network (MCCN)

Mayo Clinic recognizes that people prefer to get their health care close to home. A primary goal of the network is to help people gain the benefits of Mayo Clinic expertise without necessarily having to travel to a Mayo Clinic facility. Mayo achieves this goal by developing closer relationships with community medical providers through formal collaboration and tools and services that promote information sharing.

Mayo Clinic launched the Mayo Clinic Care Network in 2011. The network consists of like-minded organizations that share a common commitment to improving the delivery of health care in their communities through high-quality, data-driven, evidence-based medical care.

Members are invited to join the network after a comprehensive evaluation that includes clinical excellence, patient care and quality criteria.

Today the Mayo Clinic Care Network has 40 members. These independent high-quality organizations are based across the United States and in Mexico, Singapore and the UAE.

American Hospital Dubai and American Hospital Dubai Clinics (AHD)

The AHD mission is to provide high quality American standard healthcare that meets the needs and exceeds the expectations of the people of Dubai, the UAE and the surrounding Gulf States.  We operate to these standards, every day, in everything we do.

All of the physicians who are credentialed at the hospital are North American Board Certified or of equivalent Western training programs so as to ensure that we have the expertise to fulfill our patients’ medical requirements in comfortable and reassuring surroundings.

The hospital was the first private institution in the Middle East to be accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI), which ensures our continued commitment to the highest quality American standard of healthcare in the region. The hospital’s Medical Laboratory was also the first private laboratory in the Middle East to be accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

The hospital continues to expand its services in primary and secondary care, plus selective tertiary services.

Q: What is Mayo Clinic Care Network?

A: The Mayo Clinic Care Network is collaboration between Mayo Clinic and other health care organizations. Through this network, your health care team at home has easy access to Mayo Clinic knowledge and expertise.

Q: What does this mean for me as a patient?

A: As part of Mayo Clinic Care Network, your health care providers can consult with Mayo Clinic specialists using digital technology. This technology allows doctors to connect to review complex cases and provide additional input when your provider believes it would be helpful to you.

Q: What electronic tools does the network use?

A: Mayo Clinic Care Network members have access to electronic tools that allow their medical professionals to collaborate with Mayo Clinic:

  1. AskMayoExpert is an online point-of-care tool designed by Mayo Clinic physicians. This clear, concise resource offers disease management, care guidelines, treatment recommendations and reference materials for a wide variety of medical conditions.
  2. eConsults serve to connect AHD physicians with Mayo Clinic experts when AHD physicians want additional input regarding a patient’s care.
  3. eTumor Boards are live teleconferences that allow AHD physicians to participate in and discuss the management of complex cancer cases with teams of Mayo Clinic specialists.

Q:  Will I need to be assessed/examined by a Mayo physician?

A:  No examination is needed. Your AHD physician will share your assessment findings and test results (medical record) through an electronic and secure system to the Mayo Clinic specialist.  Only those records and information needed for the eConsult will be shared and only after obtaining your permission to share this information.

Q: Are my medical records safe during these consultations?

A: Yes. Patient privacy is a priority, and we have safeguards in place to protect your health information. Anything shared with Mayo Clinic related to patient care is sent through a secure electronic connection and remains confidential.

Q: Will I see a Mayo Clinic doctor?

A: Mayo Clinic doctors don’t schedule appointments with patients through the Mayo Clinic Care Network. The network serves to connect your AHD health care team and the specialists at Mayo Clinic. As they work together, you’ll benefit from access to the latest medical expertise close to home.

Q: Can I request an eConsult with Mayo Clinic?

A: Your AHD health care providers use eConsults to get input from Mayo Clinic specialists when they believe it would be helpful. If you have questions about your care, talk with your AHD physician.

Q: Will I continue to see my physician?

A: Yes. Your health care providers will continue to care for you, and you’ll benefit as AHD physicians will now have quick access to the latest Mayo-vetted medical expertise, and they’ll be able to consult directly with Mayo Clinic specialists for input on complex cases.

Q: Will patients automatically be referred to Mayo Clinic?

A: There is no obligation for referrals to Mayo Clinic. The primary goal of AHD and Mayo Clinic, through the Mayo Clinic Care Network, is to help more patients gain the benefits of Mayo Clinic knowledge close to home, ensuring they need travel outside the region for specialty care only when necessary.

Q: Do all of Mayo Clinic’s specialists participate in the Mayo Clinic Care Network?

A: Mayo Clinic shares the breadth and depth of its specialty expertise to members through the care network.

Q: Will there be any cost to the patient for use of these resources?

A: No. American Hospital Dubai pays for the clinically based services it uses from Mayo Clinic. There is no additional cost to the patient.

Q: Will patients now see a Mayo Clinic doctor?

A: Mayo Clinic doctors do not schedule appointments with patients through the Mayo Clinic Care Network. The network’s connection is between AHD providers and the specialists at Mayo Clinic. As they work together, you’ll benefit from access to the latest medical expertise close to home.

Q: Does this mean I’ll never need to go to Mayo Clinic?

A: You may still need to travel for specialty care that isn’t available in your area. But, by sharing medical expertise through the Mayo Clinic Care Network, the goal of your AHD physician and Mayo Clinic is that you will stay closer to home for your care whenever possible.

Q: Does Mayo Clinic own members of the Mayo Clinic Care Network?

A: No. Members of Mayo Clinic Care Network are independent and locally owned and controlled. The purpose of the network is to connect members with Mayo Clinic so that they can work together to provide the best possible care when and where patients need it.
